Our Story

The Conversant Journey

Conversant began as a partnership focused on negotiation and leadership development for public sector organizations, then quickly evolved into a trusted advisor for commercial and non-profit enterprises seeking to unlock performance through the power of human connection. Since its pivot in 1991, Conversant has partnered with global leaders like Hewlett-Packard, Capital One, Coca Cola, National Australia Bank, Telstra, and The Nature Conservancy to develop leaders, improve leadership effectiveness, accelerate strategy execution, and foster high-performing teams. Through immersive leadership programs, team alignment workshops, facilitated strategy conversations, and multi-stakeholder collaborations, Conversant has consistently helped organizations achieve more with less time, money, and stress—proving that conversations are the work and authentic connection is an extraordinary advantage.

Over the decades, Conversant has weathered economic downturns, embraced digital transformation, and redefined its identity through a deep commitment to authenticity, community, and innovation. From pioneering leadership development programs for thousands of managers worldwide to co-creating strategic breakthroughs across industries, Conversant’s legacy is one of enduring impact.   1. 1995 – Tektronix Breakthrough: Helped halve product time-to-market from 18 to 9 months, launching a hallmark Conversant approach to leadership development.
  2. 1996 – HP Ireland Project: Enabled the fastest-ever opening of an HP Ink Jet facility through unprecedented multi-stakeholder collaboration.
  3. 1997 – The Essential Development Program: Created and launched our immersive leadership development experience, The Essential Development Program, which remains our flagship program today. Now called The Connected Leader- Credibility, Influence and Impact, this leadership experience has supported leaders for nearly 3 decades in creating meaningful, lasting transformation for themselves, their organizations and their communities.
  4. 2002 – Global Leadership Expansion: Our ongoing research into how human connection impacts achievement leads to our first book, The Communication Catalyst: the fast (but not stupid) track to value for customers, investors, and employees. Designs based on that research launched HP’s “Dynamic Leadership” program, reaching 12,000 managers worldwide and scaling Conversant’s global impact. The impact of Dynamic Leadership was featured in The Journal of Organizational Excellence.
  5. 2005–2007 – Strategic Alliances: Formed key alliances with people and organizations we admire, expanding Conversant’s reach into Coca-Cola, Lockheed Martin, National Australia Bank, The Nature Conservancy and our leadership development experience for 20000 leaders at BP.
  6. 2012 – Telstra Transformation: Supported 4,000 leaders in transforming Telstra into a competitive, customer-driven enterprise, leading to the opening of the Conversant Asia-Pacific office.
  7. 2015 – Second Book Published: Released The Vitality Imperative, updating Conversant’s research on connected leadership and organizational vitality.
  8. 2020 – Innovation: Pivoted during the COVID-19 pandemic to design and deliver impactful virtual leadership experiences and launched On Connection, our podcast featuring a multigenerational look at leadership, conversation and connection.
  9. 2021 – Re-Enchantment & New Vision: Completed a company-wide transformation with a bold new vision and set of promises centered on authenticity, community, and love.
  10. 2025 – Proven Impact Around the World: Created “The Emerging Leader” and “The Purposeful Leader” programs that are open for public enrollment. These programs complement our flagship, “The Connected Leader” leadership experience and align with our dedication to providing leaders with the conversation, connection and leadership skills they need throughout their career. We demonstrate measurable value in leadership development, team performance, strategy implementation, change leadership and multi-group collaboration for our clients in 450+ organizations on six continents around the world.
