Connected Leadership – What is it & why does it matter now? | The Connection Diaries

Published by Mickey Connolly at July 13, 2020

In this episode of the Connection Diaries, Mickey Connolly and Robin Anselmi define and discuss Connected Leadership – a foundational element of Conversant’s approach to leadership, organizational effectiveness and employee engagement.

In our latest book, The Vitality Imperative: How connected leaders and their teams achieve more with less time, money & stress, we differentiate between two approaches to leadership that summarize how bosses and philosophers have for ages thought we best produce results through others:

  1. The Superior Leader: Put smart individuals in charge and make sure everyone else follows their instructions.
  2. The Connected Leader: Depend on leaders who understand the challenges to align people through a common purpose and coordinate contribution. Rather than relying on the intelligence of a few senior people, connected leaders unlock the brilliance and creativity of a community.

Through our work and research, we’ve found that the Connected Leader model is far more effective at not only accomplishing more with less, but at creating cultures of vital communities where people feel connected, cared for, and challenged and inspired to do great things.

So, why does this matter now? How can Connected Leadership help us respond to the challenges we’re facing today?

Mickey and Robin share their thoughts in this episode, and we will continue to explore the topic and practical ways we can apply this thinking in future episodes of the Connection Diaries and in our live webinar-style conversations (you can register and find more information about our upcoming webinars on our Community Gatherings page).
